In brief

In a significant diplomatic move, the United States has reinstated military aid to Ukraine following extensive discussions held in Saudi Arabia. This decision coincides with Ukraine's support for a proposed 30-day cease-fire with Russia, conditional on Moscow's agreement. The U.S. and Ukraine released a joint statement detailing plans for immediate military and intelligence support alongside a commitment to tap into Ukraine's vital mineral resources. Although Russia was absent from the negotiation table, President Trump has signaled intentions to communicate with President Vladimir Putin in hopes of fostering a lasting cease-fire agreement soon.

The Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, emphasized that the new developments place the onus on Russia to respond and bring an end to the fighting. Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron is taking proactive steps by gathering military leaders from over 30 nations to discuss establishing a multinational peacekeeping force that would oversee the cease-fire, should it come to fruition. On the ground, however, combat continues as Russian forces have intensified their assaults on the Ukrainian town of Sudzha, which was previously regained by Ukraine last year, marking a significant escalation in hostilities.
