Biden Opens Fire on Trump’s ‘Vanity Projects’ at Fundraiser

Former President Joe Biden launched a scathing critique of Donald Trump at a Democratic Party fundraiser in Hanover, Maryland, describing the former president’s White House and National Park “vanity projects” as evidence of a “loser” mindset.

Biden focused on three high‑profile Trump initiatives. First, the $400 million plan to tear down much of the East Wing of the White House to build a new ballroom for state events. Second, Trump’s effort to rename the Kennedy Center after himself – a change undone by a court order. Third, the $14.7 m restoration of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, which subsequently fell victim to algae growth and vandalism claims.

Biden warned Trump’s enthusiasm for “extraordinary money touches” was misdirected toward the January 6th insurrectionists, referencing Trump’s attempt to reimburse them with taxpayers’ funds. The initiative was later halted by a judge.

“What makes me angry is that Trump wants to give taxpayers’ money to the January 6th insurrectionists,” Biden declared, using the “winter” image of Washington’s iconic pool as a symbol of misplaced priorities.

Trump has yet to respond explicitly to the remarks, but has previously called Biden a “crooked politician” on Truth Social and used the nickname “sleepy Joe” in unrelated posts. The dispute underscores the broader narrative of two former presidents in direct conflict over public perception, legacy, and public funding.
