On Monday, the family of 31‑year‑old conservative activist Charlie Kirk stood in the Utah courthouse, watching prosecutors present the first evidence in the murder case against 23‑year‑old Tyler Robinson.
After Kirk was shot while speaking on the campus of Utah Valley University on 10 September 2025, authorities released Robinson as the suspect two days later, charging him with aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm, obstructing justice and witness tampering.
In the preliminary hearing, the prosecution announced that four law‑enforcement witnesses would testify. The defense attempted to suppress evidence and prevent cameras from operating, but the court ruled against these requests. Prosecutors also urged Judge Tony Graf to keep the possibility of a death penalty on the table.
The family released a statement in advance of Monday’s proceedings, describing Charlie as a “beloved husband, son, brother, friend, and father.” They expressed gratitude for the support received and requested privacy, stating: “Out of respect for the judicial process, we will not be commenting further at this time.”
The proceedings are scheduled to last through Friday, with the family and the legal community awaiting the next steps in a case that has drawn national attention.
