Millions View Leaked Copy of Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ on X
According to Variety, a message posted on X containing a high‑quality scanned version of Christopher Nolan’s latest film attracted 2.1 million views in just 2½ hours before the account was suspended. The clip was a 3‑hour, 70 mm film, which the director insisted was meant to be experienced on the biggest screens, such as IMAX. The leak was posted on Saturday and received swift reaction on the platform, with one user joking, “The full Odyssey movie in a tweet, as Nolan intended.”
Universal Studios launched an immediate takedown response, warning that “we take copyright infringement seriously and will pursue all appropriate remedies to protect our content and intellectual property rights.” A lower‑resolution bootleg was also seen on X in the following days, amassing almost 50,000 views before being removed two hours later after the film’s respective publisher took action.
Although the leak has prompted a flurry of online activity, the film’s box‑office earnings appear largely untouched. As of its second weekend, “The Odyssey” had grossed $215 million worldwide, bringing its total to $640 million (about 480 million pounds).
The incident highlights the challenge of protecting high‑value cinematic works in an era where even entire feature films can be shared in seconds. The industry will likely proceed with stricter digital rights enforcement and new security protocols for distribution of major releases.
