Prosecutors in Los Angeles will file murder charges against Nick Reiner, the son of famous Hollywood couple Rob and Michele Reiner, who were found dead in their home with multiple stab wounds on Sunday.

Nick Reiner, 32, is facing two counts of first-degree murder and could be sentenced to life in prison if found guilty. District Attorney Nathan Hochman stated that Reiner is expected to face court after being 'medically-cleared' by prison officials.

During a news conference on Tuesday, Hochman noted that no decision had been made regarding the potential for seeking the death penalty.

Rob Reiner is known for directing iconic films such as This is Spinal Tap, Misery, and A Few Good Men.

Michele Singer Reiner was an accomplished actress, photographer, and producer, and also the founder of Reiner Light, a photography agency and production company.

Nick Reiner is charged with first-degree murder, with an enhancement for multiple murders that could lead to a harsher sentence. He is also accused of using a deadly weapon—a knife.

Currently, he is undergoing medical testing to ensure his eligibility for court. He is slated to appear in front of a judge for an arraignment hearing later on Tuesday, which will officially charge him and allow him to enter a plea.

LA Police Department Chief Jim McDonnell addressed the emotional impact of the case, emphasizing the deep personal tragedy it represents for the Reiner family and the wider Los Angeles community.

District Attorney Hochman also mentioned that it's premature to speculate on any mental health issues that may be raised during the trial, indicating that this could potentially be brought up by the defense.
