Pilot’s swift defence turns Flydubai flight a living example of courage
An Indian captain on board a Dubai‑bound Flydubai flight to Israel was caught in the middle of a sudden attack when his co‑pilot tried to seize control. The pilot, Captain Smit Machchhar, managed to block the attacker, allowing passengers to overpower the assailant and bring the situation under control.
The incident, which began about an hour after takeoff, left the crew and passengers on edge. Thanks to the captain’s quick thinking and calm, the flight was diverted and landed safely in Saudi Arabia, with no injuries reported.
Back in India, Captain Machchhar received a call from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who praised the pilot’s heroism and called the incident “a testament to the professionalism of our armed forces”.
The incident has sparked a renewed conversation about cockpit security worldwide and the importance of crew training for emergency situations.
