Surveillance Video Shows Suspect on Rooftop in Utah Court

During the second day of a preliminary hearing in a Utah court, prosecutors released new surveillance footage that allegedly places 23‑year‑old Tyler Robinson, the suspect in the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, on a rooftop at Utah Valley University shortly after the incident.

The 45‑second clip shows a young man—identified as Robinson—running across the rooftop of the Losee Building, dropping an unknown object, and then running off the campus. According to prosecutor David Hull, a lead investigator with the Utah State Bureau of Investigation, the footage also depicts Robinson’s vehicle arriving in a campus parking garage, a man in a maroon shirt walking across the grounds, and later, the same individual purchasing food from a Chick‑fil‑A before heading into a wooded area close to the university.

Robinson was arrested for the shooting on 10 September 2025, when he was speaking on campus. He faces multiple charges, including aggravated murder, and his attorneys have not entered a plea. The prosecution is seeking the death penalty, while a defense team led by Kathy Nester has tried to exclude significant portions of the video evidence and argued that the footage may have been edited or that the original footage‑takers did not testify.

Hull’s testimony also revealed that the suspect was seen wearing different clothing 90 minutes before the shooting, apparently walking with a limp. No shell casings were found near the rooftop, where a “sniper pad” was reported, and Hull admitted that more than one weapon was found on campus that day.

Judge Graf’s role is not to decide guilt but to weigh whether the prosecution has presented sufficient evidence for the case to proceed to trial. She will continue to hear arguments from both sides, which raise questions about the reliability of the footage and the overall integrity of the investigation.
