The incident occurred during the second half of a match on Saturday in Texas, where Dietz sustained a head injury that led to his death on Tuesday, as confirmed by the college in a statement on their social media.
Dietz, a 6-foot-8 forward from Vilonia, Arkansas, was averaging 11 points per game this season and had contributed eight points and four rebounds in the game prior to his injury. Connors State College expressed its condolences, stating, “Ethan exemplified what it means to be a Cowboy, to value hard work and being part of a team.” The statement further conveyed the collective grief of the team and the broader Cowboy community, extending heartfelt thoughts to Dietz's family and friends during this challenging time.
