He has been charged with double homicide and other offenses after living with the victims' remains for weeks. Authorities allege he sought financial means to facilitate his plot, involving disturbing communications and preparations.
MADISON, Wis. – Nikita Casap, an 18-year-old accused of murdering his parents to fund a plan aimed at assassinating a high-profile political figure, is poised to enter a plea deal in a Waukesha County Circuit Court hearing.
In the upcoming morning session on Thursday, Casap faces multiple charges, including two counts of homicide, two counts of concealing a corpse, and theft. A trial was scheduled to commence on March 2, but the plea deal may resolve the case sooner.
Details of the plea agreement remain undisclosed, with neither the public defender's office nor the county district attorney's office providing comments due to ethical constraints and ongoing proceedings.
Investigators believe Casap shot his mother, Tatiana Casap, and stepfather, Donald Mayer, in their Waukesha home around February 11. He reportedly lived with their bodies for several weeks before fleeing the state with substantial cash, jewelry, his stepfather’s firearm, and the family pet, prompting a nationwide manhunt that concluded with his arrest in Kansas on February 28.
Federal authorities have detailed a chilling narrative surrounding the case. A criminal complaint revealed that Casap allegedly crafted a manifesto calling for the assassination of Trump and shared plans with individuals, including a Russian-speaking person. Additionally, he is suspected of purchasing a drone and explosives while planning to execute the murders as a means to gain financial resources and independence needed to undertake his plot.
In various messages found on Casap’s cellphone, he expressed concerns about hiding after the alleged crimes, revealing aspirations of moving to Ukraine for a fresh start, which raises troubling questions regarding his mental state and motivations.
This case continues to capture widespread attention, highlighting severe issues related to youth, violence, and political extremism.
