LOS ANGELES (AP) — Michele Singer Reiner, a respected photographer and producer, known for inspiring the happy conclusion to the beloved romantic comedy ‘When Harry Met Sally…’, has passed away at the age of 68.
Both Michele and her husband, famed director Rob Reiner, were found dead at their home in Brentwood, Los Angeles. The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a medical aid request on Sunday, discovering the couple inside their residence. Reports indicate their son, Nick Reiner, 32, is being held in connection with their deaths, complicating this tragic situation.
Rob Reiner has often shared how meeting Michele influenced the story of ‘When Harry Met Sally...’, leading him to rework the script’s ending to allow the lead characters to fall in love, reflecting his own romantic journey at the time. In a 1989 interview with The New York Times, he reminisced about Barry Sonnenfeld, the film's cinematographer, who predicted he would end up marrying Michele shortly after they first met on set.
Reflecting on their first encounter, Rob said, “I look over and I see this girl, and whoo! I was attracted immediately. I wormed my way into their lunch.” This attraction quickly blossomed, leading them to marry in 1989 and later welcome three children: Nick, Jake, and Romy.
Michele's filmography includes producing roles in noteworthy projects such as ‘Spinal Tap II: The End Continues’, ‘God & Country’, ‘Albert Brooks: Defending My Life’, and ‘Shock and Awe’ and greatly contributed to the Reiners' creative legacy in Hollywood.
