MEMPHIS, Tenn. — An unprecedented cold snap is gripping the eastern U.S., affecting around 150 million people due to a bomb cyclone that resulted in significant snowfall across various states.
Temperatures plummeted below freezing from the Gulf Coast to New England, disrupting daily life and travel. In Florida, the climate anomaly caused snow flurries and cold-stunned iguanas, while North Carolina experienced substantial snowfall that created hazardous conditions.
Over 2,800 flight cancellations were reported, with most occurring at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Traffic disruptions also plagued areas, leading to accidents and lengthy road closures.
Many regions are contending with ongoing power outages, with efforts underway to restore electricity to thousands after the devastating winter storm hit last week. Officials are working hard as they prepare for the possibility of more light snow and frigid winds in the upcoming days.
Experts suggest that travelers and residents should remain vigilant as the weather continues to evolve, especially in the mid-Atlantic and Northeast where additional snow may occur.
