In brief
Canadian University Dubai’s six researchers were named in the 2026 Stanford–Elsevier World’s Top 2 % Scientists list, highlighting the university’s growing global research impact across AI, business and medicine. The scientists, recognised for contributions ranging from machine learning to internal medicine, reflect CUD’s strong research culture and international faculty presence. Their achievements occur amid a broader institutional ranking that places CUD eighth worldwide for International Faculty Ratio.
On November 5, 2026, six researchers from Canadian University Dubai (CUD) were identified by the Stanford–Elsevier World’s Top 2 % Scientists list as leading scientists in their respective fields. The accolade, announced by the World Affairs Media (WAM) in Dubai, casts the university’s research team into a global spotlight, spanning artificial intelligence, business management, energy studies and internal medicine.
The Stanford–Elsevier list is a citation‑based database that evaluates scientific impact through an analysis of publications and citations. It incorporates six key indicators, combining metrics such as total citations, h‑index, field‑normalized citations, total publications, average citations per paper and a measure of co‑author diversity. By weighting these dimensions, the list seeks to reflect a researcher’s overall influence across multiple disciplines.
Canadian University Dubai’s Rising Academic Footprint
CUD’s inclusion in the list parallels its ranking eighth worldwide for the International Faculty Ratio in the QS World University Rankings 2027. The ratio reflects the proportion of faculty who hold degrees from institutions outside the country, indicating the university’s emphasis on international expertise and collaboration. This international outlook aligns with its mission to provide globally relevant education and research.
Dr. Firuz Kamalov, one of the six scholars, emerged in the AI, image processing and machine learning sectors. He has authored more than 150 papers and secured close to AED 9 million in research funding. Part of this has come from the Dubai Future Foundation, which underwrote a project on dementia detection using explainable AI. The study employs transparent model‑interpretation techniques to aid clinicians in diagnosing early cognitive decline.
Dr. Mohammadnoor Injadat consistently ranks among top researchers in machine learning and intelligent systems. Recognised for the fourth consecutive year, his work has attracted nearly 3,000 citations in Google Scholar, underscoring his influence on both academic and applied communities. His research focuses on algorithmic optimization for large‑scale data analytics.
In the domain of business and management, Dr. Jamid Ul Islam advanced research on marketing, consumer behaviour, customer engagement and digital business. His work investigates how digital platforms modify consumer decision pathways and explores strategies for enhancing digital customer interactions.
Dr. Syed Zamberi Ahmad Bin Ahmad concentrates on entrepreneurship, innovation and business growth strategies. He evaluates the role of artificial intelligence and big data analytics in strengthening organizational competitiveness, developing frameworks that firms can use to harness technology for sustainable expansion.
Financial economics is represented by Dr. Ikhlaas Gurrib, whose research explores global market dynamics, asset pricing, portfolio management and volatility forecasting. He has examined how energy markets interact with other asset classes, providing insights into systemic risk and diversification strategies for investors.
Finally, Dr. Malcolm Price, known for his work in general and internal medicine, has published over 100 peer‑reviewed articles, including papers in high‑impact journals such as Nature Medicine and The Lancet Infectious Diseases. He participates in 15 externally funded projects and has served as a consultant to the World Health Organization, bridging basic research and public health policy.
Beyond the Stanford–Elsevier list, Dr. Ahmad and Dr. Islam were also identified in the SciRank Global Scientific Index & Scientist Ranking 2026 as part of the world’s top five percent of scientists, further confirming their standing in the international research community.
Collectively, the achievements of these academics underscore CUD’s growing influence across a range of scientific and technical disciplines. Their recognition demonstrates the university’s capacity to produce high‑impact research that spans emerging technologies and traditional medical fields, positioning Canadian University Dubai as a significant contributor to global scientific advancement.
